Drama
The School of Drama is a dynamic, leading edge place of training and development for emergent artists. It is one of the UK’s premiere schools and has a rapidly evolving international profile. It aims to nurture and promote the development of artists of excellence, enabling them to pursue fruitful and meaningful careers in a national and international context, thereby making a contribution to the cultural landscapes.
Our portfolio is designed to offer potential students a dynamic choice of one of four undergraduate degree programmes, in preparation for careers in performance and production, both live and mediated and within the formal and informal education sectors.
The diverse range of staff expertise, and our excellent relationship with the theatre and screen industries, ensures that our training is contemporary and is constantly informed by dialogue with the professions which we serve.
All of our programmes are firmly rooted in the practice of making performance, and students work on a range of fully realised projects and productions in real-world contexts. Often these will be collaborations with professional theatre companies, and will be performed in professional theatre spaces. On other occasions they will be in-house productions, performed in one of our own excellent venues.
We currently have active working relationships with the National Theatre of Scotland, the Royal Shakespeare Company, the Playwrights’ Studio, Scotland, Vanishing Point, the Traverse Theatre, the Tron Theatre, The Arches, the Tramway and many other companies.
Students of the Digital Film and Television degree programme work with a range of professionals and shoot films on location, which are screened in a number of venues and in an ever-increasing variety of forms. This degree programme, despite being only two years old, has already established a high profile in the industry and boast a BAFTA winner in its first graduate group.
