BA Acting

When you join the BA Acting programme you should prepare yourself for three fantastically intensive years of supplementing your own skills, developing your technique, and putting it all into practice in a huge range of productions at a wide variety of venues.

YEAR ONE focuses on the five basic programme strands:

Acting

You will spend time discovering how to root yourself in characters, understanding how observation can aid with characterization, relationships and actions. You will have the opportunity to demonstrate your work in several studio presentations.

Voice

You will be working with the Centre for Voice in Performance (the national centre of excellence for teaching, practice, and research) and International Fellow, Nadine George on developing your technique, daily practice, and safely integrating the work into your performance. You will begin to work on accents, dialects, and vocal health.

Movement Studies

You will set sound foundations for a balanced and free use of your body. You will start your work on Lecoq technique and take classes in contemporary dance, fencing, and Alexander Technique.

Critical and Contextual Studies

You will learn about theatre history and contemporary theatre culture. You will explore genres and the structure of plays, all of which will guide your performance work to a new level of understanding and comprehension.

Professional Practice

You will establish the foundations of daily practice, which will guide your work for the rest of your career. You will also develop research skills and skills and strategies for a successful career.

YEAR TWO brings further performance modules using all the skills you learned in Year One and continues your training with advanced techniques and further exploration.

You will be involved in rehearsals as you take part in performances and productions. Your work will be tested with new styles of work and genres as you explore text from across theatre history. You will undertake Radio Drama modules in our in-house studios and at the BBC’s Pacific Quay Studios. In small groups you’ll develop a script in a professional setting with your classmates.

You will further your vocal technique and your understanding of voice work in a production-based context.

You’ll advance your movement skills in physical theatre, mime, mask, acrobatics, and Commedia dell’Arte

You will continue to focus on your career developing management, longevity, and entrepreneurial skills.

You may be able to take advantage of professional opportunities, and work in professional productions outside the Conservatoire.

YEAR THREE is your springboard into the rest of your career, as you work nonstop using all of the skills you have been developing over the last two years.

You will work on main stage productions, a Christmas pantomime, productions with our professional partners, and you’re likely to benefit from various professional opportunities.

One of the most important aspects of this year is preparing for your professional showcase, which will be seen both in Glasgow and London by a variety of directors, agents, managers, and producers.

You will also align yourself with a professional mentor to help guide you through the challenges of your entry into the professional world.

Workshops will be abundant this year and following an Acting for Camera module you will have the opportunity to work on a short film with our Digital Film and Television students either in the studio or on location.
