Brass
The Brass Department has a long tradition as a centre of excellence and a worldwide reputation made in Glasgow for training tomorrow’s leading musicians. The department is large enough to offer exciting challenges but small enough to give every student widespread opportunities.
A top quality team of dedicated staff includes many of Britain’s finest brass players, with international reputations as soloists, orchestral and chamber musicians, and this is supplemented by masterclasses from many of the world’s great artists. Students receive an unparalleled two hours individual tuition a week, divided between principal study (trumpet, trombone, horn, tuba, euphonium or cornet), and second study on specialisms such as jazz or period performance (natural trumpet, sackbut, etc).
Brass students take part in Symphony, Wind, Opera and Chamber Orchestras, and a diverse range of ensembles as well as weekly classes in orchestral repertoire, performance and technique classes. All of these ensembles regularly give concerts throughout Scotland, and there have recently been tours to China, Spain, Denmark and Russia.
