Danceworks
Welcome to Danceworks
In 2009/2010 the Academy introduced its first full-time dance degree. Called BA Modern
Ballet, this will be a three-year vocational course, the first conservatoire-based dance degree in
Scotland.
In preparation for dance being added to the performing arts practice already available
at the Academy we will be offering a growing range of dance development activities.
We will be taking on special projects in partnership with dance companies and other dance promoters
across the country.
During the spring break and over the summer holidays our specialist Lecturers in Modern
Ballet will work with aspiring dancers on intensive study courses. The courses are
designed specifically for 14 to 17 year olds who are hoping to go on to further training in
ballet.

Danceworks - Launch January 2011
In Autumn 2010 the Academy extends its
estate and introduces Speirs Locks Studios to the mix of spaces we programme for throughout the
year.
The new facilities include a design and
technical base for Technical and Production Arts courses alongside four new dance studios to
support our Modern Ballet students’ work.
As part of the development of our “access
to excellence” work we will launch the Danceworks programme in January 2011.
Danceworks will comprise three main
programmes and pathways:
- Dance, health and well-being classes at evenings and weekends
- Schools classes and projects in line with A Curriculum for Excellence
- Pre-vocational training options for young people considering a career in modern ballet

During the spring course participants will have daily classical
technique classes with pointework for girls and virtuosity for boys. In addition, participants will
take masterclasses in a range of supporting subjects, including contemporary dance and classical
repertoire.
The summer course is an opportunity to build on this experience and to develop further skills in choreography and jazz dance.
