Junior Academy of Music
Welcome to the RSAMD Junior Academy of Music
On Saturdays, the Academy is full of young people of school age from all over Scotland and the
North of England. Classes take place from late September until June and each year about 250
students attend. Junior students at the Academy enjoy the use of the same space and resources as
the full-time RSAMD students and are also able to attend concerts and masterclasses. Students come
from far and wide across Scotland and the North of England. This year we had young people from
Aberdeen, Annan, Aberfeldy, Ardrishaig, Carlisle, Carnoustie, Dundee, Dunoon, Edinburgh, Falkirk,
Glasgow, Inverness, Inverurie, Moffat, Perth, Pitlochry, St. Andrews and Stranraer!
There is a wide variety of music classes available for each student. These range from
individual lessons to playing in groups or singing in a choir. Students may also have the
opportunity to take part in, or attend, concerts at a number of venues around Scotland. Since all
the classes are held on a Saturday, students can enjoy their music-making without interruption to
their normal weekday school and family life.
The atmosphere is supportive, encouraging and welcoming – above all, students are encouraged
to fully develop their musical potential.
We look forward to welcoming you here.
