RSAMD Publication Scheme

External and Community Relations

This category covers information relating to the institution’s relationship with its external environment. These include how it manages its relationship with the local community and how it retains contact with its former staff and students.

By virtue of its nature, most institutions will probably find that the majority of these classes are already made available to the public by some means.

1. Alumni

The RSAMD has an Alumni Association. It is run by a part-time member of staff who may be contacted at alumni@rsamd.ac.uk or by ringing the Department of External Affairs on +44 (0)141 270 8216.

The association publishes an annual newsletter which is sent to all alumni. Next year it is hoped that this publication may become biannual.

From time to time the association holds special events for members. These are advertised in the newsletter and by circular letter.

For further information contact the alumni office (above.)

2. Community Relations

The RSAMD has many and close links with the local community in Glasgow and the west of Scotland.

This is centred in large measure around the RSAMD Youthworks programme which takes music and drama to local schools. For further information on Youthworks' activities contact the following members of staff:

Youthworks (Music) - Christopher Gray at c.gray@rsamd.ac.uk or by ringing +44 (0)141 270 8386.

Youthworks (Drama) - Eona Craig at e.craig@rsamd.ac.uk or by ringing +44 (0)141 270 8337

When not in use for academic purposes our rooms and facilities are available for let to local clubs and organisations and currently our regular users include a T'ai Chi club, two children's theatre schools, the Open University, the Scottish Amateur Music Association among others.

Our Foyer is available free of charge as an exhibition space for the work of local artists and is heavily in demand for this purpose.

A number of concerts in the Academy each year are linked to local and national charitable causes, most notably the Rush Hour series of concerts each term and the Summerfest concert series in the final term of the academic session.

Ticket prices to all internal concerts and plays at the RSAMD are very reasonably priced making our events accessible to the widest possible audience.

This is not the whole story.

Members of RSAMD staff and many of our students are active in the local community in a variety of ways and we value these links. Often these lead to collaborative ventures of one sort or another and the Academy is always delighted to contribute where it can, given the constraints of time and space imposed by a busy academic programme, to the promotion and the work of local organisations.

The RSAMD has a Development Strategy (to follow).

Friends and Patrons

Donations to the friends scheme helps fund various RSAMD initiatives, for example, tours to arts venues in Scotland and abroad, Youthworks, productions and so forth.

Friends benefit from priority booking, exclusive events and seminars, use of the RSAMD library (not lending) and receive complementary copies of RSAMD publications.

The Patrons schemes enables donors of £150 or more to channel their gift towards a particular area of RSAMD activities.
