Big Guitar Weekend Gets Bigger

Big Guitar Weekend Gets Bigger

Guitar fans from all over the world gather in Glasgow next month for the annual Glasgow Guitarathon.

The fourth annual Big Guitar Weekend (BGW - 13 November – 15 November) will be bigger than ever before with even more concerts, guest performers, an ensemble competition and a series of late night chill out sessions on offer at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama..

Guitarists from all over the UK, China, Czech Republic, Greece, Italy and the USA will perform at the Academy, including performances by the internationally renowned Pavel Steidl and Chinese guitar guru Xu Bao.

Organiser of the event and guitar tutor at the RSAMD, Alan Neave, said: “We are really looking forward in particular to the crossing of cultures and styles at this year’s event, with a truly International roster! The whole event should provide something for everyone with jazz, blues, world, classical and Scottish guitar music all on display. Bring it on…”

And Peter Argondizza, co-organiser of the event and guitar tutor added: “The Big Guitar Weekend has grown year by year. We at the BGW are ever committed to endorsing the best educational and artistic qualities of the instrument for both professional and amateur development through first rate instruction and concerts. We hope that all guitar enthusiasts and music lovers will join us in Scotland’s international celebration of the Guitar!
The BGW kicks off on November 13 with an impressive line up of young, talent from around the globe followed by a celebrity concert by BGW tutors Eros Roselli, Xu Bao, Irene Konsta.
During the weekend there will also be an opportunity to see Scotland’s largest guitar and mandolin orchestra - Da Capo Alba.
In The Guitar Label concert on 15 November presents a stellar line up with Acoustic maestro Clive Carrol, hot blues with Marcus Bonfanti, mellow classics with Milli and special guest, jazz legend Martin Taylor.
There is also the opportunity to hear some sounds for a pound during the BGW and of course relax at the late night chill out sessions in the Academy’s Jack Bruce space.

Background Notes on The Big Guitar Weekend
The Big Guitar Weekend was established by Allan Neave and Peter Argondizza in 2006  as a 'merger' of the Dundee Guitar Event and  GuitarFest and has since established itself as a multi-disciplinary event with an emphasis on education. within the international guitar  community. Drawing from the successes and combining the expertise of the Dundee Guitar Festival (Allan Neave) and Strathclyde GuitarFest (Peter Argondizza), this new event based in Glasgow since 2007 as THE BIG GUITAR WEEKEND has moved from strength–to-strength. Furthermore, the committment  of both artistic directors Allan Neave and Peter Argondizza has enhanced the festival and strengthened the practices and ideals of bringing together community education and a concert series of international standard to Scotland’s largest city.
