Tonight's the Night for Musical Theatre Students
Saturday night’s the night for Musical Theatre students from the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama. (Saturday 24 July)
Beginning this weekend for the next 7 weeks, around 20 students from the Academy’s Musical Theatre degree programme will appear on prime time TV alongside entertainer John Barrowman on the BBC’s flagship Saturday night show Tonight’s the Night.
Each weekend the students will perform with John Barrowman as he hosts show-stopping acts from world class performers with once in a life time performances that make people’s dreams come true.
And this weekend the students will performs Take That’s Rule the World with John Barrowman.
“This is a unique opportunity for our students and it could only happen in Glasgow,” said Andrew Panton, Associate Head of Performance at the Academy and the vocal coach for Tonight’s the Night.
“Working alongside John Barrowman and a whole cast of international stars is a tremendous experience and the students are having a ball. Our cast were only meant to perform in one episode but when the producers saw their outstanding first performance they were bowled over and have taken them on as the Tonight’s the Night choir.”
Each week in Tonight’s the Night, John Barrowman surprises members of the public and makes their dreams come true. Whether it's performing with the stars of their favourite musical or duetting with their pop idol, this will be the experience of a lifetime for the lucky few.
The show will feature show-stopping performances from the Academystudents performing withJohn Barrowman as well as world class artistes, dance groups, the casts of West End musicals and international sports stars.
Guest artists appearing on the series will include Bryan May, Kerry Ellis, Michael Bolton, Dionne Warwick, Michael Bolton Myley Cyrus, Kevin Pietersen, Diversity, the West End casts of Grease, Wicked and Legally Blond. The students will perform musical hits from the West End including Mama Mia, Queen, The Lion King and Uptown Girl.
Tonight’s the Night is on Saturday night at 8pm and is filmed at the BBC’s HQ in Glasgow.
