Scotland Gets Ready to Welcome the world’s Finest Young Pianists for the 9th Scottish International Piano Competition


 
The internationally renowned Brodsky Quartet joins forces with the Scottish International Piano Competition (SIPC) for the 2010 event in Glasgow.
 
During Sepptember, 24 competitors from 18 different countries will come to the city for the ninth triennial piano competition.
 
And this year, for the first time in its history, each of the three finalists will perform a piece of chamber music with the Brodsky Quartet at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama.
 
Baillie Liz Cameron, chair of theSIPC, said: “The chamber music element is a first for the SIPC and we hope that it will generate a richer musical experience for competitors and audience alike.
 
“I am delighted that the Brodsky Quartet is part of the competition and I look forward to the wonderful performances ahead.”
 
Once again, the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, conducted on this occasion by Martyn Brabbins, will accompany the concerto final at the final in the City Halls on September 19 2010.
 
The SIPC Jury is a most distinguished one comprising international pianists from all over the world including Brazil, Japan, Chile, Russia and Turkey.
 
Master Classes for selected young pianists will be given by Idil Biret, Arnaldo Cohen, Noriko Ogawa and Susan Tomes.
 
Juror Idil Biret (Turkey) will also give a celebrity recital devoted to this years’ anniversary composer, Frederic Chopin, on Saturday, 18th September at 7.30pm in the Academy’s Concert Hall.
 
This year, the SIPC Lecture will be given in the Alexander Gibson Opera School, RSAMD, at 5pm on Tuesday the 14th September by David Owen-Norris, well-known broadcaster and Professor of Musical Performance at the University Of Southampton. His topic will be “Performance as Polemic”.
