Katherine is a Flute tutor at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama.
Katherine Bryan is Principal Flute of the Royal Scottish National Orchestra. She also
regularly appears as a concerto soloist with leading orchestras worldwide, and has performed with,
amongst others, the New York Philharmonic, Royal Scottish National, Halle, Nürnberger Symphoniker,
Helsinki Philarmonic and English Baroque orchestras. Ms. Bryan has also worked with the London
Philharmonic, BBC Scottish, Royal Philharmonic and London Symphony orchestras.
She won a full scholarship to study at the Julliard School, New York, and was a prize winner
at the Royal Overseas League Music Competition, the Young Concert Artists International Competition
in New York and a finalist in the BBC Young Musician of the Year for three consecutive
competitions. She was awarded the Julius Isserlis Scholarship for woodwind by the Royal
Philharmonic Society.
It was at the age of just 21 that she was appointed Principal flute with the Royal Scottish
National Orchestra. She has appeared at major international festivals as concerto soloist and
recitalist, including the Cheltenham International Festival. She has given live broadcasts on
Classic FM, BBC Radio 3 and on BBC television.
