Alison Green

Alison is a Bassoon tutor at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama.
Alison Green studied bassoon at the RSAMD with Edgar Williams, gaining the DipMusEd and DRSAM
(perf) qualifications. She also won the Governors' Recital Prize for woodwind. On completing her
studies in Glasgow, she went on to study for a year at the Conservatoire de Musique in Geneva with
Roger Birnstingl. While in Switzerland she was often invited to play with local
orchestras.
On her return to Scotland, she spent several years freelancing with all the Scottish
Orchestras, also with the Ulster Orchestra and London Festival Ballet Orchestra.
In 1990, she joined the Scottish Chamber Orchestra as second bassoon. The position, which she
holds today. She enjoys the variety of work offered in the SCO, including the excellent education
programme, which the SCO runs. One of the most well known education projects is 'The Bear Hunt' and
Alison is a member of the wind trio who visit primary schools, work creatively with the children
and perform ‘The Bear Hunt’ for their friends and parents. The project is based on the book by
Michael Rosen with music composed by Alec Roth.
Alison enjoys her involvement with the students of the RSAMD, both teaching and coaching
chamber music.
