Stephen is an Oboe and Cor Anglais tutor at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and
Drama.
Stephen West began his musical education at Canterbury Cathedral and then Guildton Cathedral
where he was head chorister.
He graduated from the Royal College of Music in 1984 and was principal Cor Anglais and Oboe
with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra from 1986 – 2005.
Stephen has played with most of the British Symphony and Chamber orchestras and has given
masterclasses and solo recitals in the UK and abroad.
Since leaving the RSNO, he has become a full-time teacher and is focused, motivated and
devoted to getting the very best out of each and every student.
