Fees, Scholarships & Bursaries

Information for students based in Scotland/EU countries outside the UK as defined by SAAS

The Scottish Government published new legislation (the 'Draft Student Fees (Specification) (Scotland) Order 2011'), for consultation on 29 June 2011. Subject to parliamentary approval in the autumn, this legislation will enable individual Scottish universities to set their own fees for UK undergraduate students permanently living outside Scotland. As soon as we have set the fee amounts for this group of undergraduate students enrolling at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama for 2012/13, they will appear on on this website. Prior to their publication the university will not be in a position to offer applicants any further information on the fee levels set.

Students seeking clarity on their place of permanent residence and related fee status should refer to the advice and guidance provided by the funding body in the area they live. This will either be the Student Awards Agency for Scotland, Student Finance England/Wales/Northern Ireland.

Scottish and other Non-UK EU Students The Student Awards Agency for Scotland (SAAS) will pay tuition fees for all eligible full-time Scottish-based and other non-UK EU students, studying in Scotland, who are studying degree level for the first time. Students should apply to SAAS for payment of tuition fees even if they are not applying for any other means of support.

Students who have already received funding for a HND will not normally receive funding for the first year of a degree programme, but should be eligible for support for subsequent years. Applications can be made online and further details can be found on the SAAS website ( www.student-support-saas.gov.uk )

English, Welsh and Northern Irish Students Students from England, Wales and Northern Ireland who intend to study in Scotland will be eligible for the same funding package that they would benefit from it they attended an institution in their home country. Significantly, variable top-up fees have not been introduced in Scotland.

Eligible students will be able to apply for a Student Loans for Fees to cover tuition fee costs. This means that they will not have to find the money before they start their programme of study or whilst they are studying, and the fees will be paid directly to the Academy, on their behalf. Students will repay these loans once they have left the Academy.

International Students In order to have leave to remain in the country to study, international students must provide evidence to show that they can support themselves in the UK. Otherwise, visa applications for entry clearance may not be granted. Further information for international students can be found at the British Council Website ( www.britishcouncil.org ) and the UKCISA website ( www.ukcisa.org.uk )
