Partnerships
2004 – 2007
In partnership with the Scottish Institute for Enterprise and with a three-year grant from
their Innovation Fund, the Academy developed an ambitious project to maximise the learning
opportunities available through the musical theatre productions at the Edinburgh Festival
Fringe. The aim of the project was to use the Fringe as a microcosm of the arts sector and
help Masters of Performance in Musical Theatre students develop their knowledge and skills in order
to be able to produce their own productions and create their own employment opportunities. The
grant enabled the Academy to commission and develop new work for performance at the Fringe and
employ a near-peer Company Manager. This person workedclosely with the company and cascaded
their learning to their colleagues. A final document was compiled entitled “How to Produce at
the Edinburgh Festival Fringe” as well as three films to document the project in a practical and
useful way.
