BA Digital Film and Television

Film awards and nominations by BAFTA, BAFTA Scotland, the BBC and the British Academy Film Awards shows the emerging first-rate talent that the DFTV course has generated.

The success of recent Digital Film and Television graduates has been inspirational to current students and to the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland as a whole.

Recent awards:

My First Spellbook

The DFTV graduation film My First Spellbook won the Royal Television Society Scotland award for best undergraduate fiction at the awards event last night. Panel members described My First Spellbook as “entertaining, brilliant, and perfect”. The Panel were impressed by the My First Spellbook and felt that it would have sat very well on CBBC. They complimented the casting, performances, music, make-up and props. Individual members of the Panel enjoyed the programme so much that they watched it again and again. It was praised for having a clear narrative structure, with a beginning, a middle and an end, and also having a clear moral centre whilst maintaining a sense of fun throughout.

Room 9

Congratulations to the DFTV students who have once again taken a top award for their work. The competition - organised by the Scottish branch of the Royal Television Society - saw Carlo D’Alessandro, Karen Gardener and David Van Der Zanden win the Best Fiction title for their film, Room 9. The awards ceremony took place at BBC Scotland's Pacific Quay HQ in Glasgow. It was attended by almost 100 students, academics and industry professionals. RTS Scotland chair, Henry Eagles, described this year’s entries as "proof that the future of film making for television in Scotland is in very talented hands". The award winners are nominated automatically for the RTS UK Student Awards, which take place later this Spring. Last year’s UK Fiction award was won by another Royal Conservatoire production, Choreomania.
